Abstract

(Figure Presented) Environmentally benign polymerization: Highly reactive polyisobutenes can be synthesized with MoIII catalysts (see picture; Mo red, N blue, Cl green, C black) at room temperature in nonchlorinated solvents. This is a major improvement in comparison to the industrial process, which is carried out below 0°C in solvents like CH2Cl 2. Other recently found catalysts could not be applied in chlorine-free solvents and were considerably less efficient.
