Abstract

Up to now cationic hosts were necessary for the molecular recognition of hydrophilic anions in water. This task can, however, also be performed with the cage molecule 1 having zero net charge. The vital design feature is the rigid separation of substructures of unlike charge, which enables encapsulation of the guest in the central cavity. (Figure Presented.)
