Abstract
The unique advantages of the incoherent quasielastic neutron scattering technique (in particular in combination with NMR relaxation methods and molecular dynamics simulations) have been used to unravel different modes of the hierarchical superposition of motional processes in the fluid and solid states of lipid bilayers. New theoretical and experimental developments have taken place that analyze bending excitations of adhering vesicles and measure undulation forces.
