Abstract

The versatile possibilities of free tissue grafting with microvascular anastomosis has brought about a revolution in reconstructive surgery. This is of particular significance in that, besides soft part replacement, functionally important tissues such as bone, muscle, and sections of intestine in particular can be transplanted. Furthermore, the loss of several tissues such as skin, tendon, bone and even muscles as a 'combined graft' can give a complete replacement at one operation.
