Abstract

The Department of Family Medicine at the Technical University of Munich and the hospital of Dillingen have developed a common pilot project for final year medical students. It is supposed to refine and integrate the final year undergraduate medical education in family medicine in a rural area. Key components are longitudinal implementation of the curriculum, optimizing didactics plus continuous mentoring, close cooperation between the hospital, regional doctor networks and the university. The aim is to improve students' motivation to specialize in family medicine. Ideally, students who finish their training and receive their license to practice medicine stay in one of the regional residency programs for family medicine. So far, the results are promising.
