Abstract

In order to meet the official exhaust emission restrictions of automobiles a great technical effort has to be taken. The quality of the air/fuel ratio control has major impact on the emissions. The used concept handling the ratio is based on robust control, which is parameterised in frequency domain. The quality of control is reduced by changing process parameters caused by aging and deviation of the individual motor block components. In this document a new closed loop control approach is presented, which is capable of online adaptation to changing process parameters. The influence of the dominating delay is compensated with a Smith Predictor. The developed control was tested successfully by Rapid Control Prototyp ing. The emissions measured are in the same range as the ones of the actual control though the new control shows a reduced usage of the ECU resources.
