Abstract

The size-dependent composite-like model of internal stresses in heterogeneous microstructures [R. Sedláček, S. Forest, Phys. Stat. Sol. (b) 221 (2000) 583] is used to explain the fluctuations of the internal stresses in dislocation cell structures measured recently by Levine et al. [L.E. Levine, B.C. Larson, W. Yang, M.E. Kassner, J.Z. Tischler, M.A. Delos-Reyes, R.J. Fields, W. Liu, Nat. Mater. 5 (2006) 619] and to predict a systematic dependence of these stresses on the cell size.
