Abstract

In this paper reduction methods for multiphysical models are investigated. A thermomechanical problem is illustrated. First modal truncation of the state space modes of the system is investigated and the basis found from this approach represents the behavior of the system well. However, the method requires complicated complex modes and therefore we introduce a basis built from the bases of the uncoupled problems as a second approach, because these are simpler to build. One can improve on this basis again by inclusion of a correction for the coupling effect, which is derived from a first order perturbation analysis.
