N2 - Nowadays, automated material handling systems are indispensable and are of key importance for production and distribution. However, these systems also have a non-negligible energy consumption, which is an increasingly important factor due to climate change and rising energy prices. The question regarding the amount of the energy consumption of a system cannot usually be answered using common methods. This paper presents a way to determine the energy consumption of a pallet conveyor system using material flow simulation. To this end, a discrete event modeling approach is developed.
