Abstract
This paper formulates a model-based technology roadmapping architecture as an integrated framework to model and simulate decision-making problems in technology strategy settings. A model-based roadmapping framework is proposed as a complementary approach to traditional workshop-based roadmapping approaches. The framework structures a technology roadmap in data analytics, knowledge management, continuous improvement, and visualization elements. All elements are interrelated and managed through a systematic model structure, a relational database and distributed version control. The paper demonstrates the approach on a case study of orbital launch vehicles, and provides a side by side comparison of the approach to traditional workshop-based roadmapping methods. The approach presented in this paper allows roadmapping teams to deliver fact-based roadmaps while ensuring information consistency and holistic inclusion of all relevant product, technology, and market perspectives.
