Abstract

A millimeter-wave phased array antenna for shaping and steering of a well defined Gaussian beam is presented. The Gaussian beam is radiated in the frequency range from 75 GHz to 105 GHz (W-band), corresponding to a relative bandwidth of more than 30%. Steering the beam by ±15° is possible with two piezo actuators. The array antenna design is ultrahigh-vacuum compatible, it sustains neutron radiation and is temperature resistant up to 150 °C. All individual components of the feed network (i.e. coupling structure, phase shifter, focusing element, and radiating reflector) are presented and, where available, prototype measurements or full-wave simulation results are stated. The design procedure of the array taper and subsequently the whole feed network is described and a CAD model of the assembly is presented.
