Abstract

The performance of a VLSI chip is dominated by three factors: 1) device speed, 2) system design, and 3) circuit design. A simple model is presented to estimate the maximum system clock frequency for MOS and bipolar devices in both Si and GaAs substrates. System and circuit design are briefly considered for the example of a high definition TV data-reduction system.
