Abstract

Effective mixing is extremely critical to microfluidics. However, it is still difficult and uneconomical to achieve effective mixing within a short mixing length at micro scale. Viscoelastic polymer solutions with low polymer concentrations are considered to be a positive approach to enhance mixing efficiency at low Reynolds numbers. This work proposed a micro-mixer based on the orthogonal injection. The flow visualization and statistical analysis is conducted quantitatively. Additionally, the flow mechanism associated with elastic instability has been interpreted. Finally, effective mixing within a short mixing length is achieved.
