N2 - To increase the safety of machines and plants, a systematic failure analysis must be integrated into the technical development. The methodic of a failure analysis is described, which is based on the construction methodology, which has been developed during the past few years. To effect a methodical failure analysis, considerations on stresses and stress reactions must be carried out. Failure characteristics and failure mechanisms are identified uniformly and brought into a standardized combination. Based on these conditions it is possible to programme the working method of the failure analysis. Finally the working method described permits a standardized and comparable storage and evaluation of failure data.
