Abstract
The need for modifications on the tooth flank arises in power transmissions mainly from the load-induced deformations of the surrounding components and the tooth and gear body deformation itself. Since many gears operate under variable load conditions, these deformations during operation usually are not constant. In this publication, a method is presented, that allows determining flank modifications that are optimized with regard to the flank load capacity under the impression of a load spectrum. The method has been developed within the research project FVA-722/I. The resulting modi fications were validated based on industrial examples and show a high degree of correlation with the tooth flank modifications designed in practice based on experience.
