Abstract

Metabolomics provides a unique methodology for studying gastrointestinal diseases and the role of the gut microbiome that complements, supports and expands the evolving metagenomics field. An integration of metabolomics and metagenomics research will aid in better defining the functions of bacterial species, and therefore a understanding the linkage of species, phyla or enterotypes to health and disease.
