Abstract
Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) provide repeated precise point positioning in a global scale over more than ten years time period. A very dense network was isntalled in the mediterranean area. The derived station motions from repeated observations in combination with additional geophysical information are used in this paper to compute a continuous deformation model of the Mediterranean by the Finite Element Method (FEM). The centres of earthquake activities in Southern Europe become quite evident from the strain pattern of this model. -English summary
