Abstract

The new perfluoropinacolate complexes (CH3)(PFP)ReO2 and (PFP)2OsO·(4-t-butylpyridine) are accessible from CH3ReO3 and OsO4, respectively, by reaction with perfluoropinacol. In comparison with the nonfluorinated derivatives, these compounds are very water-sensitive (stronger metal Lewis acids!). The nonfluorinated rhenium(VII) complex CH3ReO2(OCMe2CMe2O) shows dynamic structural behaviour on the NMR timescale, while the fluorinated derivative is structurally stable.
