MEASUREMENTS OF RESIDUAL WELDING STRESSES IN ALUMINIUM STRUCTURAL PARTS IN THE FATIGUE-CRITICAL REGION.

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The residual welding stress distribution in the fatigue-critical region was investigated in aluminium structural parts of the alloys AlZn4. 5Mg1 and AlMg4. 5Mn. In this connection the three measurement methods, viz drill hole method, resolve method and set expansion generators are employed in parallel. The measured residual welding stresses exhibit wide variations. The maximum values depend on the design of the welding parts and reach values around the 0. 2 percent yield strength of the weld joint.
