Abstract

Large fluctuations are known to result in noise rounded current voltage characteristics of overdamped Josephson junctions and a finite resistance even in the zero current limit. This makes the measurement of the critical current and its magnetic field dependence difficult. Extending the theory of Ambegaokar and Halperin we have developed a new method for measuring the magnetic field dependence of the critical current in the regime of large thermal fluctuations.
