Abstract

The behavior of a liquid-pulsated, sieve-plate extraction column during start-up and following a disturbance was studied numerically using a mathematical model of such a column, and experimentally with the systems toluene-acetone-water and MIBK-acetic acid-water. The flooding-point curves, both with and without mass transfer, and the efficiency of mass transfer in both directions were determined.
