Abstract
Modern industrial enterprises utilize international outsourcing and global sourcing to reduce manufacturing cost. The associated increase of complexity of processes have lead to higher production interruption risk potential in the past and thus make a specific risk management for production necessary. Besides external influences, inherent factors such as machine failures and production ramp up delays also determine production's risk potential. Thus, this essay discusses the influencing variables on operational risk and describes which methods are to be utilized in a production-based risk management process.
