Abstract
Impaired mental abilities in state leaders are rarely the subject of public debate. But history reveals several examples, often with fatal consequences for a nation. it is controversial whether or not physicians should be heard in the assessment of a politician's abilities. From a neurological and psychiatric point of view we present several cases and discuss possible strategies.
