Low-loss Ge-on-GaAs platform for mid-infrared photonics

Abstract

Low-loss photonic platform that can span the entire mid-infrared spectral region is reported based on the Ge-on-GaAs wafers. Optical loss of approximately 4.2 dB/cm is measured in ridge-waveguides at 10 μm wavelength.
