Abstract
To predict the damping behavior of machine tools, models for the local damping effects are required. In this work, a method to identify local damping parameters is presented, which is based on the superposition of damping ratios. As an example, the method is applied to a mounted machine base. Here, the damping parameters obtained for the first eigenfrequency could predict the damping ratios of the seven subsequent structural modes with a maximum relative error of 15.8%.
