Abstract
The effect of an alimentary Pb-deficiency on the concentration of cholesterol, triglycerides and phospholipids in serum respectively plasma and in lipoproteins was examined in two growth and one generation experiment with female Sprague Dawley rats. The animals were fed a semisynthetic casein-based diet supplemented with 0-800 ppb Pb as Pb-II-acetat-3-hydrate. In two experiments, the different Pb-supply in the diet had only a slight or inconsistent effect on the lipid parameters. At day 21 in experiment 3, the different Pb-supply induced a reduced concentration of cholesterol and triglycerides in plasma and lipoproteins in the groups fed the Pb poor diet. At day 28, only the concentrations of triglycerides of LDL and HDL were still reduced in these groups. Thus, the studies show that Pb-depletion affects the concentration of lipids in serum and in lipoproteins.
