Abstract

The improvement of the capacity of mobile communication systems by sectorisation of radio cells is assessed to be too optimistic at present. The authors point out the limits of the sectorisation gain caused by the mobility behaviour of the subscribers and soft handoff. In environments with few subscribers a substantial loss of this gain occurs.
