Abstract
The paper at hand presents an approach to modelling and calculating the geometry of manually operated storage systems. Due to the model’s modular structure, an extension to calculate the demand of bin locations is integrated. In addition, advanced layout solutions are included, e.g. shelves for variably sized load units. The model is validated by comparing its results to examples from industrial practice, whereby it can be used for computer based planning. Finally, the model is analyzed with regard to its applicability to a systematical generation of different layout solutions.
