Abstract

Sn2 molecules are produced by YAG laser vaporization of tin metal in a stream of cold helium gas and studied by time resolved laser induced fluorescence. Several vibronic bands of an electronic transition with origin near 18 200 cm-1 are analyzed and the ground state vibrational frequency and equilibrium molecular constants are determined. The electronic structure of Sn2 is discussed and an assignment of the observed transition proposed.
