Abstract

The authors study the tunnelling of electrons through an inverted parabolic barrier in the presence of a laser field. Using wavepackets, they derive analytic expressions for the tunnelling current and probability. Special attention is paid to the initial phase of the electric field. The distribution of tunnelling times is obtained from an analysis of the tunnelling current.
