Abstract
Due to the pollution effect the FEM becomes inefficient for large wavenumbers k and for objects of large acoustical size kl. The paper presents an alternativ approach using the BEM. As the standard BEM is of order O(N 2) a Fast Multipole accellarated BEM is applyed. The reduced complexcity O(N log2(N)) of this method enables their efficient application to large scale problems. The method is sucessfully tested with the round robin test launched by the PTB in Braunschweig, Germany.
