Abstract

A family of space reflectors based on a Shell Membrane Antenna Reflector Technology (SMART) composed (mainly) by membranes are discussed in the paper. These reflectors are based on the newly developed carbon fiber reinforced silicone (CFRS) composite material. Different analysis and test results are presented in the paper. Shape accuracy is also discussed according to tests under Og conditions via parabolic Airbus flights as well as in the laboratory conditions. Reconfigurable surface aspects are addressed also in the paper.
