Abstract

Landscape tending is that kind of activity that is concerned with the endeavour to keep the natural landscape enduringly efficient, ecologically manifold, beautiful and healthy for human life. But forestry tending is not only a means to fulfil demands of landscape tending in the forest. It is rather an instrument to secure the highest possible production of the raw material wood in terms of quantity and quality. Therefore, forestry tending, must be understood as a compromise and so in order to make sure that there is enough wood available, the natural stocking must be revalued through types of trees that fit their surroundings. But forestry tending also means that the plantation and conservation as well as the harvest of the wood has to be done in such a way that the aims of landscape tending can be reached. The functions of forestry tending which must be fulfilled under the aspect of landscape tending can be summed up as follows: 1. Securing and conservation of the natural resources through stands that fit their surroundings and are operational proof. 2. Adjustment of all technical measures (esp. those like the opening up, conservation and harvest techniques) to protection and wellfare functions. 3. Consideration of the requests of the forestry aesthetics also or especially in forests with high production. How these aims can be fulfilled is being demonstrated by examples.
