Abstract

Current location-based services bound to single location sources, service domains and networks are limited in service performance (accuracy, usability etc.), hence lacking broad user acceptance. Ubiquitous, adaptive location-based services using multiple positioning sources considering the distributed nature and varying "quality" of location information are the key to market success. Combining both mobile-operatorand community-based-approaches to location information provisioning, we present LACBA: an open, scalable, self-learning location platform which considers the distributed nature of location information derived from heterogeneous networks and positioning systems. We show how seamless adaptive location-based services can be realized using LACBA, demonstrating the handover between outdoor and indoor positioning systems on a seamless navigation prototype called Ariadne.
