Abstract

We report on the detection of the heart failure biomarker, NT-proBNP, across a clinically-actionable range using a swarm of amphiphilic particles able to contain distinct nanoliter-scale volumes. The multiple individual reactions conducted in these volumes provides improved accuracy in measurements, even with variability introduced in handling and readout from a low cost portable fluorescence reader. The cost-effective but accurate measurement and potential to multiplex patients/or additional biomarkers with each particle can enable improved heart failure diagnosis and monitoring in low-resource settings.
