Abstract
Immunohistochemical results obtained with four monoclonal antibodies against HIV-core proteins in formalin-fixed tissue and reflections on their specificity and utility are presented. The simple identification of such antibodies would offer the clinician new diagnostic and therapeutic chances. Despite our extensive knowledge of HIV-infection, the morphologic identification of the virus remains difficult. The different technical approaches are reviewed critically.
