Abstract
In mid 2004, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg gave the starting signal for the new "Power Plant of the 21 st Century", in short, KW 21 research initiative. Thirty-six new technologies have been developed for steam and gas turbines, steam generators, and combustion chambers for gas turbines and energy cost analyses and strategies have been developed in terms of operators, economists, and ecologists. The "energy industry" sector is important because investment decisions of power plant operators will stamp decentralized electricity generation in liberalized Europe. Three of these projects are carried out at the Technische Universität München and Forschungsstelle für Energiewirtschaft. They are the subject of discussion. The future structure of electricity generation in Germany is analyzed with the results of these studies to be published in mid 2007. Technology and cost modeling is being made of electricity generation in Germany. Small combined heat and power (KWK) system in power plant combines are studied. Engineering requirements of new power plants in the field of decentralized electricity generation with KWK systems and regenerative energies are also being studied.
