Abstract

Using the example of deep drawing tools made of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) and additively built polylactide (PLA), the economic viability of alternative manufacturing methods for prototype production is investigated from the user's perspective. The results show that especially for small batch sizes, the composition of costs is crucial. This paper is intended to help decide under which general conditions the use of alternative tooling materials makes economic sense.
