Abstract
Laser beam welding of electrode stacks for internal contacting of battery cells is challenging. The low thickness of current collector foils and the high thermal expansion of aluminum cause the foils to bulge and detach during the process. The use of nanosecond laser pulses enables to join the aluminum foils to the arrester tab with low heat input. Sequential welding of in-dividual seam sections reduces the distortion of the foils and allows for more homogeneous seam properties.
