Abstract

The present paper discusses the problem of multiple morbidity, exemplified by arthroses of the lower extremities combined with arterial blood flow problems. Discussed are the causes and therapy of arthrotic joints as well as the possibilty of active participation in sports. Swimming, gymnastics, bicycling, hiking and rowing are considered to be appropriate sports. Beyond this, vascular exercise using the bicycle ergometer can improve the mobility of the ankle. Even though an occasional activation of arthrosis can occur, vascular exercise should be considered a supplementary form of kinesiotherapy for patients with arthrotic joints and, from an orthopedic point of view, it can be recommended without reservations.
