Abstract

The authors used free flap transfers with microvascular anastomoses to cover defects of the head, leg, foot and hand. In their experiences of 12 cases they got 2 total and 3 partial necroses of the transplants. The possible causes of the failures are discussed, and the results are compared with other reports. The significance of the method in hand surgery is demonstrated, comparing groin and dorsalis pedis flaps.
