Abstract
The complex {[μ-(Me3Si)C(PMe2)2]3Ge4Cl2}+ [GeCl3]- (3) is formed in the reaction of GeCl2 · dioxane with Li[(Me2P)2C(SiMe3] in the presence of magnesium. X-ray crystallography shows it to contain discrete GeCl3 anions and cationic chains of four germanium atoms with terminal Cl and bridging diphosphinomethanide ligands. Complex 3 is therefore a member of a novel class of homonuclear mixed valency main group element compounds.
