Abstract

Cyclopentadienyl- and methylcyclopentadienyltetrahydrofuranedicarbonylmanganese behave with respect to diazomethane as carbene trapping reagents. The reactions carried out at low temperatures yield diamagnetic dimeric complexes of the type [RC₅H₄Mn(CO)₂]₂CH₂ (R = H and CH₃, respectively), which contain, as shown by their spectroscopic data, a CH₂-bridging ligand as characteristic structural element. In addition to the μ-methylidene compounds the π-ethylene complexes RC₅H₄Mn(CO)₂(C₂H₄) are formed.
