Abstract
Patients with diabetes mellitus exhibit an increased risk for the development of cardiovascular diseases and the presence of both comorbidities has a major impact not only on the prognosis but also the implementation of evidence-based treatment to reduce the cardiovascular risk. The new 2023 guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) provide firm evidence-based recommendations for the management of cardiovascular diseases in patients with diabetes. The most relevant aspects of these guidelines are summarized in the following overview article.
