Abstract
The investigation of 57 psychosomatic and psychoneurotic patients with the Giessen-test - a self administered questionnaire - was conducted before and one year after a combined inpatient and outpatient group psychotherapy of two years' duration. The results show changes on scale level as well as on item-level which indicate especially a decrease of depressiveness and an increase of positive resonance. With regard to the subgroups the psychosomatic patients show marked differences from the psychoneurotic subgroup. This result is discussed with respect to the theoretical frame of reference of the alexithymia hypothesis and also with regard to possible consequences in the treatment of psychosomatic patients.
