Abstract

Exposure to tobacco smoke increases the risk for allergic rhinitis and asthma in children. There is only limited or controversial knowledge concerning the effects of other environmental factors on allergic respiratory diseases. Among others, western urbanization and lifestyle changes are regarded as main reasons for the increase of allergic respiratory diseases.
