Abstract

Recent trends in the consumer goods sector have led to an increasing importance of user interfaces in the area of machine and plant engineering. Regarding this sector, enterprises now try to realize user interfaces with high standards of usability using innovative and newest technologies. But due to the variety of available operating technologies and the differing requirements from consumer goods, a structured approach is needed in order to select an appropriate technology for a specific application. Therefore, a classification of operating technologies is presented in the following, which simplifies the task of selecting a suitable operating technology.
