Abstract

Quasilinear photoreactions can be analysed kinetically like thermally controlled (dark) reactions if the measured absorbance-time curves Aλ(t) vs. t are transformed into the curves Aλ(θ) vs. θ by means of the definition equation for the time coordinate θ. The procedure and its efficiency are demonstrated using three methods: (i) formal integration, (ii) non-linear regression and (iii) recursion equations. The photoisomerization of trans-azobenzene to cis-azobenzene by irradiation at 313 nm in methanolic solution was analysed to compare these three methods.
