Abstract
The use of modern space techniques, e.g. the Global Positioning System (GPS), for precise surveying requires the consistency of reference systems applied by these techniques with those of the terrestrial control points. As the global terrestrial reference systems are nowadays defined kinematically (station positions and velocities) we have also to consider the temporal variations of the coordinates of the control points used in the precise surveying. The reference system for control point velocities has to be defined and realized according to geodetic requirements. It is proposed to use an actual plate kinematic model and regional deformation models in plate boundary zones without global rotation.
