Abstract

Thematic Mapper data are examined in comparison to airborne scanner imagery for the applicability of mapping agricultural land cover types. The results show that, due to limited ground resolution TM data is not the appropriate means to classify the highly structured region of the Upper Altmühl Valley. By contrast the evaluation of the more detailed airborne data proved very successful. The discrimination between field and pasture land could be achieved at 98% accuracy. Moreover, it was possible to superimpose the classified ortho scanner maps with land registry data.
